SOAPBOX 2025 - Strange Dreams

This is a proposition for a trio concert by Magda Mayas [DE] (prepared piano),
Aya Metwalli [EG] (voice/electronics), and Julian Sartorius [CH] (percussion). We
are going to delve into surreal sonic worlds that sound like the echo of a strange
dream in those few liminal minutes when you’re neither yet awake nor still
asleep. With the rhythms of Sartorius that divide time in uncanny ways, the
preparations of Mayas who plays the piano as if she’s playing a big, bizarre
sounding beast, and the microtones of Metwalli who takes us to unfamiliar
dreamlands, we will create stories that open new doors of perception. Our
scores will be images and manuscripts from The Codex Seraphinianus which,
originally published in 1981, is an illustrated encyclopedia of an imaginary world,
created by Italian artist, architect and industrial designer Luigi Serafini between
1976 and 1978.
